CAR-T Therapy
Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy is a ground breaking treatment that has revolutionised the landscape of cancer care.
What is CAR-T Therapy?
CAR-T therapy is a form of immunotherapy in which a patient’s T cells (a type of immune system cell) are modified in the laboratory to target cancer cells. T cells are extracted from the patient’s blood, and in the laboratory, the gene for a special receptor that binds to a certain protein on the patient’s cancer cells is introduced. This special receptor is known as a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR).
